My 2010 showreel, consisting of film, motion graphics, 2d animation, 3d.
For my major project for the year, I wanted to avoid doing any filming but still be able to tell a story, however I didn’t want to do traditional animation. I thought I will stick to what I know and play with the tools that I am used to.
So I decided to do a cut out style animation using only Illustrator and After Effects.
The reason why I chose Illustrator is I wanted the images to be all vector images and then I imported the layers into After Effects to animate them because I wanted to advance my skills using this software.
I know I could have done the project using Flash but I’m not familiar with it yet, so this was the way for me to do it and to have a finished product on time
This was a small project I did for the After Effects class.
We had to choose a piece of music and animate it by using as many After Effects Tools we learnt in the first Semester, and it had to be 10 seconds long.
The music is Boring by The Pierces and I got the idea for the style from the opening sequence to National Lampoons European Vacation.
Definitely one of my favourite classes
My first project of the year is an opening sequence to a ficitious variety show.
The style is a very 60′s retro look with a modern beat. It is a mix between the Ellen Degeneres show and The Variety shows from the 60′s.
I filmed the Diva and then transformed her into a silhouette in After Effects. I also put the footage into Photoshop to clean it up a bit more and also added a filter over it to give it a rough hand drawn style to it.
The dots that follow Diva around is her logo, I made it have a retro 60′s look to it to keep it all consistent. It took a while for me to finally create the retro design that I wanted. I got the idea after looking at some images of 60′s wallpaper.
Last year we had to do an animation for a commercial for Mother energy drink. It was doing a project like this that I realised that I’m not very good in drawing with the brush tool in Photoshop
, but I do think that I have interesting concepts and ideas.
Last year I did a few projects in 3D Maya. We were to create an environment scene, so I decided to do my ‘Dream Room’ Disco theme. It was then composited in After Effects for the sparkles and bubbles.
This the rough edit for the Odyssey Beer campaign featuring the Pirate.
Rahim has the final edit with colour grading and audio added to it.
The last major project for video this year was the ad campaign. The team included myself, Felix, Rahim, Tushar and Lee.
We had 2 campaigns one was the introduction and the nest was introducing a character, (we chose a pirate) who when spotted in public somewhere, anywhere around the world, the first person to upload footage of his appearance to the official main website will win a prize. There would be an announcement on the Odysseybeer twitter account 10 minutes before his appearance, to give people a heads up.
There will also be an iphone app, for anyone to upload their videos quicker than normal to the Odyssey Beer website.
Motion tracking done in After Effects.
The footage I captured wasn’t the best for motion tracking, so I added a colour correction to give it a nightine feel and and had the spotlights and names to track the two dancers.
